Yes, it might come as a surprise to some, but you do have to learn to apologise and accept an apology in German! Not everyone is as tough and direct as you might think. German’s appreciate manners and want to know that if they’ve offended you, you’ll accept their apology graciously.

I’m convinced that nowadays, where almost everyone is a yoga fanatic, practises meditation and drinks matcha tea for breakfast, most of us have no time for all that negativity in life anyway. But in case you ever find yourself in a situation where, despite all the good vibes, you had a disagreement with someone, and you want to accept an apology in German, here are a few things you can say:

“Schon gut”, literally meaning “already good”. This is a simple way of saying “Hey, don’t worry, it’s all good.”
“Macht nichts”: Literally, this says “Makes nothing”, meaning “It doesn’t matter”.
