¿Cuál es tu signo? (What is your sign?) is a great way to start a conversation in Spanish. Even if you only know the basics of astrology, zodiac signs can be a fun way to get to know somebody new.
But in order to start a conversation about zodiac signs in Spanish, you’ll need to learn the name of each sign in Spanish. It also helps to know the personality traits they represent and review some adjectives to describe people in Spanish.
Signos zodiacales (zodiac signs) are assigned based on the position of the sun on a person’s date of birth. Even if you’re an astrology skeptic, zodiac signs can at least serve as a starting point for talking about the dynamic personalities of your friends, family members and new acquaintances. With that in mind, here are some fun ways to talk about the zodiac in Spanish.
To talk about the Spanish horoscope, we use a literal translation of the phrase “zodiac signs”: los signos zodiacales. You can also say el zodíaco when talking about the zodiac in general. The definite article is masculine in both cases.
There are twelve zodiac signs in all. The birthdates associated with each sign have a one-month range, but these dates do not perfectly align with the Gregorian calendar used in Europe and the Americas. To pronounce the signs correctly, take a moment to review the five vowel sounds in Spanish.
Each zodiac sign belongs to an element family. The four elements are fire (fuego), air (aire), water (agua), and earth (tierra).

Libra /LEE-brah/ is Spanish for Libra. The birthdates are from September 23 to October 22.
This sign has a serious sense of justicia (justice). Libras seek equilibrio (balance or equilibrium) in everything they do. They are also popular for being coquetos (flirty).

Escorpio /eh-SCOR-pyoh/ is Spanish for Scorpio. The birthdates are from October 23 to November 21.
This sign is often associated with intensidad (intensity) and pasión (passion). It is considered a misunderstood sign because that intensity can be misread. Scorpios are also intuitivos (intuitive people) and some even consider them to have empathic or psychic abilities.
