B2 German Course: General Topics and the Lingoda Method

In the German B2 course you will cover topics such as: cultural differences in interpersonal relationships and the working world, German history and politics etc. In addition, you will study grammar topics such as "causal and consecutive clauses: weil, denn, deshalb, so...dass", use of the conditional and the Konjunktiv I.

To ensure a proper, step-by-step mix of all these topics, the Lingoda Method is ideal: We offer comprehensive online classes that focus on more than just grammar and vocabulary. We want you to feel confident using your skills in real-life settings. In classes of up to five, you'll practice talking to improve your pronunciation and fluency. Customized feedback from our native-level teachers helps you learn from your mistakes, as well as listening to the mistakes of others.

Another specialist feature of our program is the rotation of our teachers. You'll be training your ear to listen to different accents, intonation and more, so that when you start practicing in the real world, you'll be ready for different voices.

More than anything, we focus on flexibility. We know that life is busy, and sitting down at the same time each week might not work for you - so you are totally in control of your schedule. You can book classes based on your availability, with access to lessons whenever suits you.

Frequently asked questions

Our courses are broken down and categorized using the CEFR. CEFR stands for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. This is an internationally recognized standard that helps classify levels of fluency. It starts at A1, considered the beginner level and moves through to C1 for advanced. A B2 level German speaker is considered an Upper-Intermediate language speaker.

When you take a Lingoda course, we incorporate every aspect of language learning into the lesson plan. You’ll practice speaking, reading, listening and writing. As part of the Lingoda Method we also tackle real-life scenarios. This is so you can start putting what you’ve learned to good use immediately. With our lessons, we want you to feel confident asking questions and putting your new skills to good use between sessions.

If you’re looking at a German B2 online course you’re already quite advanced. At Lingoda we offer learning plans that cater to every level, from beginner to advanced. Because we structure our lessons according to CEFR you can be sure we’ve got a course that challenges you, but doesn’t overwhelm you.

Once you register as a Lingoda student you can take our CEFR test to see which course is right for you. And don’t worry, if you’ve signed up for a Sprint or Super Sprint course, you can change the level if you find it’s too easy or too challenging and this won’t affect your cashback eligibility.

At Lingoda, we want to make language learning accessible to everyone, so we have courses that suit every level, moving from A1 beginners right through to C1, which is considered an advanced level.

You can move through each stage of the course with us, completing lessons and booking them to fit your schedule. It’s totally remote and easy to get started. So whether you’re starting from scratch with an A1 course, or a B2 committed learner, we’ll help you take the next step towards fluency.

This is entirely up to you. Because Lingoda is completely flexible, with lessons available for you morning, noon and night, you’re completely in charge of setting your own pace. You decide how many classes you want to take a week, and that can change depending on your commitments.

All courses at Lingoda have 50 lessons to complete. You can choose whether you take one class a week over twelve months. Or commitment to an intensive program like our Sprint or Super Sprint. When you join a Sprint you commit to learning a certain number of classes over 2 months. If you succeed and attend every class, you can get up to 50% cashback, meaning you’ve not just learned a language, you’ve got a lump sum to say well done!

Yes you will! As you progress through each CEFR level you’ll receive a certificate to track your progress. CEFR is an internationally recognized standard, so employers and educational establishments will acknowledge the achievement. You can even add your certificates to LinkedIn or mention them on your CV.

If you still aren’t sure, why not take advantage of our seven day free trial? You can access three group classes, or one private depending on your need. We’re confident that as soon as you try the Lingoda Method and complete your first remote class with our friendly teachers, you won’t look back!

What is a German B2 course?

A German B2 course represents the upper-intermediate level of language learning. It’s the fourth level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), following on from A1, A2 and B1.

Once you have your B2 certificate, you’ll be able to deal with complex topics and interact fairly comfortably with native-level speakers. You’ll also be able to understand the main information in complex texts.

If you’re unsure if a B2 German course is right for you, take our placement test. We’ll email you the results and you’ll have a better understanding of your current German language level, so you can continue learning from the right place.

How long does it take to learn German B2?

It can take around 500 to 600 hours of study to learn German B2, starting from a position of zero experience with the language. The precise amount of time will depend on your approach to learning and your level of commitment. It’s also important to learn from qualified teachers, in an environment that encourages you to speak out loud.

With Lingoda, you can take a German B2 course via three different learning models:

  • Sprint – A 2-month challenge, with either 30 or 60 group classes.
  • Flex – Group or 1-to-1 classes, taken any time that suits you, with the option to change intensity every 4 weeks.
  • Teams – 48 group classes, over 8 or 12 weeks, with fixed classmates and teachers.

Can I learn German B2 by myself?

Independent study can be extremely valuable, but the best results will be achieved through a structured language course, taught by qualified language teachers. This allows mistakes to be corrected quickly and individual feedback to be provided. It also ensures you’re covering all of the most essential topics and rules around grammar.

We recommend taking our B2 level German course and then supplementing this with some additional learning in your own time. Doing so enables you to focus on essential topics in class, while you independently cover some topics that are of specific interest to you. You can use podcasts, books, television shows and movies to assist with this.

What do you learn in a German B2 online course?

Lingoda’s B2 level German course will teach you to understand complex topics, conversations and texts. By the time you finish the course, you’ll be able to converse relatively comfortably with native German speakers about different subjects. Some of the specific topics covered in our German B2 online course include:

  • How to talk about short-form German literature and give a presentation on a book.
  • How to evaluate information and discuss people’s beliefs and ideas.
  • How to discuss environmental issues and the future of the planet.
  • How to talk about student life and the realities of spending time in a German-speaking country.

How much is a German B2 course?

The exact price you’ll pay will depend on the number of classes you commit to and whether you want to take group classes or focus on private 1-on-1 sessions with a teacher giving you their undivided attention. For more detailed information, check our pricing page.

Lingoda also offers a free trial for new learners. You can try our service risk-free for 7 days, taking either three 1-hour classes or a single 1-on-1 private class. If you cancel during the trial period, you will not be charged. If you enjoy the classes and want to continue, you’ll automatically roll onto your chosen payment plan once the trial ends.
